General

Once an item is picked and tied to an order it must be packaged for shipment. If the item is prepacked and ready to be shipped from the shelf, see the Settings page to learn how packs may be auto-completed.

List View

The list view of the Packing module will show previously created packs. See below for how to create a pack.

Filters
Packs may be sorted on Number, Customer/Vendor/Destination Site, Order Numbers, Site, Destination, Assigned To, Status, Created Date, and Completed At by clicking the filter heading. You may filter for packs that match specific criteria by typing a value in the text field or selecting an option from the drop-down list. Clicking the Clear Filters button will clear your search.
Quick Action
  • Delete Pack - Remove the pack record from the list view and archive the record in LOCATE. This action cannot be undone from list view.

Clicking on a specific record takes you to directly to the selected pack and opens up the option to click between sub-tabs of the module navigation bar.

Module Navigation Bar

Pack Detail View

The pack number will be the title of the main sub-tab. Here, you may quickly view the details of the Pack, along with the details of the cartons.

Customer
  • The customer name will be hyperlinked and default email and phone information will be listed beneath the customer name if available.
Destination
  • This field displays the shipping address for the order.
Carton Count
  • The total number of cartons in the pack will be displayed here.
Site
  • The site at which the pack is being performed will be hyperlinked.
Location
  • The current location of the items being packed will be shown here. For more information on locations in LOCATE, continue here.
Assigned User
  • The name of the user assigned to packing the order will be hyperlinked.
Started Date
  • The date that the pack was started will show here for reference. This date cannot be changed.
Carton(s)
  • Each carton shows the part number, part name, quantity, and order number contained within itself. For information on how to edit a carton or move items to a new carton, see below.

Notes

View and edit notes pertaining to the pack.

  • Notes are for internal use only and will not be displayed on order documents.
  • Entered notes will be displayed at the top of the sub-tab and may be filtered or sorted.
  • You may modify a specific note by clicking the Edit or Delete button.
Enter a New Note
  1. Type the note in the text box with "Start typing a new note..." prompt.
  2. Click Save Note.
  • There is no character limit, but special formatting is not supported.

Reports

Any reports associated to the Packing module will appear in this sub-tab.

  • Any custom fields pertaining to packing will reside in this tab.

Actions

  • Auto Pack - Automatically selects the most appropriate carton based on the part dimensions and weight.
  • Finish Pack - Completes the pack and closes it to further editing.
  • Go To Ship - Redirects you to the Shipping module to complete the shipment from the pack. This action may only be performed on a finished pack.
  • Cancel Pack - Undo creation of the pack and send the items back to being Ready to Pack. This action may only be performed on a pack
  • Send Email - Quickly send an email to a customer regarding the sales order or other information, without leaving the screen you are working on.
  • Void Pack - The user will be unable to continue packing, and all of the items will return to the pick location. LOCATE retains a record of the pack that was created, but a new pack will need to be created to ship the items.
  • Audit - View the history of modifications made to the Pack record, including the user who made the modification and when.
  • Delete Pack - Remove the pack record from the list view and archive the record in LOCATE. This action cannot be undone from list view.

Create Pack

Packs may be created from the list view of the Packing module or the detail view of the Picking module.

From Packing Module

  1. Navigate to the list view of the Packing module.
  2. Click New Pack in the upper left.
    • This will redirect you to a list of orders that are ready to be packed. You may change the pack location and user assignment at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Click Create Pack next to each order you wish to create a pack for.
  4. Click Go To Pack to view and edit cartons

From Pick

  1. Navigate to the detail page of a pick in the Picking module.
  2. Once a pick has been finished, click Actions, and select Create Pack.
  3. You will be redirected to the Packing module.
  4. Click New Pack in the upper left.
    • This will redirect you to a list of orders that are ready to be packed. You may change the pack location and user assignment at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Click Create Pack next to each order you wish to create a pack for.

Pack Status

In Progress
  • This is the initial pack status, and will remain in effect until the whole pack has been completed.
Complete
  • Pack is finished and ready to ship.
Voided
  • The pack will no longer allow the user to finish the pack. Voiding the pack returns all items to the pick location and maintains a record of the created pack. A new pack will need to be created to complete shipping the items.

Cartons

Cartons in LOCATE are analogous to the physical cartons in a warehouse. They may have dimensions, carriers, and tracking numbers associated to them. Each carton also has the option to add a label for reference. To see carton details, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the pack detail page.
  2. Scroll down to the carton you want details for.
  3. Click the arrow icon on the right.
    • The details of the carton will appear below the carton name.

To hide the information, simply click the arrow icon again.

Edit Carton

  1. Navigate to the pack detail page.
  2. Scroll down to the carton you would like to edit.
  3. Click Edit Carton.
    • Changing the carton type will overwrite the carton dimensions with those that were set as default for that carton type.
    • For more information about setting default carton types, continue here.
  4. Change any details you would like to update.
    • The tracking number entered will be carried over to the shipment.
  5. Click Save.

Add Carton

  1. Navigate to the pack detail page.
  2. Scroll down to the cartons in the pack.
  3. Click Add Carton.
  4. Enter the carton name, type, carrier details, measurement details and weight details.
    • Note: if a part is pre-packed, the carton dimensions will automatically populate with the part's dimensions.
  5. Click Save.

Move Part to New Carton

  1. Navigate to the pack detail page.
  2. Scroll down to the cartons in the pack.
  3. Mark the checkbox next to the items you would like to move.
  4. Click Move [#] Part To New Carton.
    • Enter the Qty To Move.
    • If the destination carton already exists on the pack, you may enter the carton name in Move to Existing Carton. Or,
    • You may create a new carton by entering the Carton Type.
  5. Click Move.

Once a carton has been completed, you may lock it to prevent accidentally transferring items to or from the carton. To do so, simply click the green lock icon to the right of the carton name. Any action buttons for the carton will be grayed out. To unlock, click the red lock icon.

Add Packlines

Packlines are used to combine items from orders that are for the same customer, with the same Ship To address, and are being fulfilled out of the same site.

  1. Navigate to the pack detail page.
  2. Below the pack details, click Add Packlines.
    • If there are no available packlines that meet the requirements, this button will be grayed out.
  3. Mark the checkbox for the packlines you would like to add.
    • If the destination carton already exists on the pack, you may enter the carton name in the Carton field below Add to existing carton. Or,
    • You may create a new carton by entering the Carton Type.
  4. Click Add Lines to Pack.

Auto Pack

The Auto Pack feature will automatically select the appropriate carton in which to pack items based on the part dimensions and weight, as well as the carton dimensions and weight limit.

Feature Requirements Ensure that the following items are complete to ensure proper use of this feature:

  • Dimensions and weight must be set on the part(s).
  • The part must be staged in the pack to be eligible for Auto Pack.
  • Dimensions and weight limit must be set on the carton(s).
  • The carton status must be active.
  1. Navigate to the pack profile page.
  2. Open the Actions menu and select Auto-Pack.

The carton(s) will be automatically added to the pack, and the item(s) will be in the corresponding carton(s). Once you are done, you may finish the pack.

Finish Pack

Once all of the cartons are completed, click Finish Pack below the pack details. This will lock all cartons and complete the pack.

The items are now ready for shipping.

Delete Pack

Packs may be deleted from the list view under the Quick Actions Menu, or:

  1. Navigate to the pack detail view.
  2. Click Actions, and select Delete Pack.
  3. When prompted, click Yes.

Packs that have already been finished cannot be deleted.
